Wrong Utensil "Mimi"!

I have been letting David have a soon and attempt to feed himself since he started eating solid food. I found out today that I have been giving him the wrong utensil. Before I put him in his chair for lunch he grabbed my fork from the table. Thinking he would just experiment with it I let him keep it and gave him some macaroni. He successfully used the fork to stab and eat all of his noodles. He was very proud of his accomplishment (as was I) so we will have to find him some smaller forks. And if you are wondering where "mimi" comes from it is David's new way of saying mommy... he used to say "mama" now it's "mimi, mimi, mimi, mimi!"

Nectarine Monster

A little over a week ago David decided to climb up on a chair, then onto our table, and from our table he began to take bites out of the two nectarines I had on the counter. So, I decided to wash and give him one. It is his first time eating one whole. As you can see from this video he loves them!

On the topic of food we found out yesterday (the hard way) that our little peanut is well... allergic to peanuts. We have been trying to get him to eat peanut butter as another source of protein and after having a very small piece of toast with a very thin layer of peanut butter he broke out in hives all over his tummy. He was covered within 2 minutes of exposure. Worried that his throat would swell I called the nurse line right away and we took him to the clinic. Thankfully it was a small amount and he had not swelling but we have to be very careful from now one and the doctor said he may outgrow it.

DeMille's Farm

During out trip to Shuswap this month we visited DeMille's farm and David got to see some animals up close. We then went to Margaret Falls (see entry bellow) and then stopped for some ice cream which was an experience in itself. Here is Jonathan eating 2 scoops which he couldn't finish until the next day. Karen and I each had one scoop and I shared with Grandma Unger and still couldn't finish. Looking forward to more ice cream next summer.

Baby News

We had our first appointment with our maternity doctor at Women's hospital today. Our next appointment is in five weeks (October 3rd) when will be going over the results from our ultrasound (October 2nd). I should have an updated due date after the ultrasound but from the calculations our doctor made we are due between February 27th and March 6th. Everything looks good to go ahead and try for a natural birth this time so that is the plan. Baby's heart rate was 144 beats per minute... this is the same as David's heart rate was when I was pregnant with him. Another boy??? It is in the middle of the range if you use heart rate to determine sex but according to my heart rate when I was in-utero I was going to be a boy so I don't follow that one. So, everything is going well. Going by February 27th as the due date (and our last ultrasound) I am actually 14 weeks pregnant today. Looking forward to finding out more and we will keep you updated but we are enjoying a healthy pregnancy and for that we are very thankful.
Oh, we took a sound recording of baby's heart beat but have not found a way to get it on the blog.

David This Week

David now has 14+ teeth... we can't tell you exactly how many because we are afraid of getting our fingers bit off! He is continuing to do well. These pictures were taken yesterday and today.

13 weeks

This week our second trimester begins! This is very exciting for me because it means soon we will be having another ultrasound and I will be feeling baby move more often. I have felt a few light movements lately, though it is still quite early for that. This pregnancy I have had less nausea then I did with David... the only thing I can complain about is my allergies but hopefully that will get better soon too. We have our first appointment at Women's hospital this Wednesday.

Good Eating!

As you have guessed from the title and as you can see from the pictures David is enjoying food and eating lots. We keep thinking he must be in a growth spurt but he has not changed sizes in quite a while. He wasn't too happy he had to share mom's ice cream sandwich but he did get his own plum which Oma and Opa sent home with us on Thursday.

What's new??? (read the fine print)

It has been a while since we have had a chance to update but life continues as usual at the Neufeld house. David is getting smarter by the day and he is constantly surprising us. Yesterday he found a kleenex and before I noticed he had it he had already wiped my nose... so cute. Also when Jonathan mentioned bed time David ran full speed to his bedroom and climbed onto the rocking chair where Jonathan feeds him his bottle. This month David has gotten three new teeth which brings the total up to nine. He has also learned how to walk up stairs holding someones hand... such big steps. And he walks long distance now... down the street to the school or down the long isles at Costco (his favorite). And little does he know each new step he takes is preparing him to be a big brother early this coming spring... that's right... we are nine weeks pregnant... due at the beginning of March 2008.

Shuswap 2007

Well we spent just over a week at Shuswap this year... arriving back home Friday evening. The weather was the nicest I've had there but there were more mosquito's then usual. David did really well though his wet suit was a little too big so he kept falling over... very cute!

Can't believe our baby is a year old. He drinks 2 bottles a day, one when he wakes up and one before he goes to sleep. He sleeps from 7pm-5am. He walks everywhere and he just got his seventh tooth. He's as happy as always with a little more energy and he is eating a lot of what we eat. Other then that things are as usual. We had a nice vacation but are happy to be home.
