Today is the first day of school for David (Grade 4), Angeline (Grade 1), and Samara (Kindergarten). David will be attending class once a week as well as Nature School once a month. He attended his first Nature School last week and spent a whole day in the woods. Angeline and Samara will be attending twice a week together in a K/1 split class. We have already began our school work at home with much enthusiasm but today is their first day in class.

Angeline

IMG_3463 IMG_3452 IMG_3884 IMG_4637

In March we celebrated Angeline's 6th birthday but we only recently added her party pictures to the computer. Even though she is nearly 6 1/2 I had to share an update and some pictures of our oldest daughter. Mature beyond her age (most of the time) she in an amazing helper with Joshua and her other siblings. She loves having a baby brother and if she had her way would have a bay sister next! (Tried explaining to her that she already has 2 baby sisters but "they aren't little anymore"). She does plan to grow up, get married and have five kids of her own. David has nicknamed her "second mom" and she carries that title proudly. She thoroughly enjoyed her first year of school (attending 2 days/week of class at HomeQuest) and is eagerly waiting to start Grade 1 in September.

First Day of School

Last week Angeline had her first day of Kindergarten and David had his first day of Grade 3. We have a lot of new things going on with school this year. While we are continuing to Homeschool we have changed which school we Homeschool through and with that comes a number of changes because there are many differences in how they operate. We were formally homeschooling though RCOA which is a Private Christian School. We are now currently homeschooling with HomeQuest which is part of Delta School District. HomeQuest operates out of PineWood Elementary School in Delta. So far we are really happy we made the switch.
Currently Angeline and David attend class on Tuesdays with the option of attending twice a week. We have decided to attend once a week for now and will look at attending 2 full days a week when school starts up in January.
One of the advantages of HomeQuest that we are really excited about is that they offer many field trips. We all visited Hazelmere Pumpkin Patch on Friday and are looking forward to "Learn to Fish" near the end of October. There are 1-2 field trips each week so you can pick and choose which ones to participate in (for free). The above picture was taken at the Pumpkin Patch and the kids each brought home a different colour pumpkin. We are looking forward to tasting the blue, white and red pumpkins we brought home which are supposedly much tastier then the average orange pumpkin.
I was not sure what to expect having 2 students when the last 3 years it has been 1 on 1 but much to my surprise we have transitioned very well. We are looking forward to another great year of learning, family time, and many memories made.

Christmas Performances 2013

This Year David was part of the kids Christmas Choir at our church for their annual Christmas Musical. The title was "Out of the Box Christmas" and as you can see from the pictures there were cowboys, pirates and super heros. It was lots of fun.
Samara was our little Angel in the church Preschool Pageant and Angeline was a Narator. During rehearsal she wouldn't say her lines so we were all a little nervous but come pageant day I was feeling confident that she would come through. She did a good job with her memorization "Outside of Bethlehem some shepherds were watching their sheep at night. An Angel appeared to the shepherds and the Glory of the Lord shone around them. The shepherds were afraid!" Samara doesn't care to be up from and centre so we didn't get much singing out of her. Instead she picked her nose nervously.... bless her!

September Kids Update

David lost his 3rd tooth this month (with a little help from me). His adult tooth was growing in behind it but the baby tooth was holding on tight. A few weeks after the dentist said it would be out in a matter of days I took matters into my own hands. He will probably loose his 4th tooth next month as it is wiggly as well and the adult tooth is growing in. His front adult teeth are growing in a little farther back then I would like but I am hoping they come forward on their own. Apart from that he has started Grade 2 (at home) and is doing well. He has days where he wishes he could do away with school altogether but when he has his mind set he gets his work done very quickly. He would much rather occupy his time building Lego and K'nex. Mondays and Fridays are very busy. He starts his week with swimming lessons and Bible Study Fellowship (with Grandpa Rob) and finishes off with Community Class (had decided not to do this but changed my mind again) and Friday Night Friends, Sports Camp.

Angeline is now 4 1/2. She has been waiting anxiously to reach this stage since she turned 4. Next on the list is turning 5. She is eager to learn to read but not so eager to take directions from Mommy or anyone else. (Might have "fun" homeschooling her when she starts kindergarten next September). She knows what she wants and when she wants it. She likes to tell everyone what to do. She wants to be older so much that she is always trying to do grown up things which has been getting her into a lot of trouble. All in one week she cut Samara's hair, filled the laundry machine soap dispenser, filled the tub with Johnson & Johnson (2 minutes after I lectured her about the laundry soap), added oats to our porridge that had already been cooking and shampooed Samara's hair (what's left of it) with my face wash (that's jus what I remember... the rest of it is a bit of a daze). She often means well and can be very helpful looking out for her siblings, helping with chores and she keeps us all on our toes!

Samara bounces back and forth between Angeline's sidekick or victim :) I can see how she gets stuck in the middle not being big enough for some things and being too big for others. She is potty trained which helps a ton but bed time is still a bit of a struggle. She recently saw a paediatric ear, nose, and throat specialist because of her LARGE tonsils and has been put on a waiting list to have them removed. He surgery won't likely take place until she is between the age of 3 1/2 - 4. Her talking has really picked up since June... sometimes we can't get her to stop! Her favourite shows are "Dora" and the "Lego Batman" movie. She likes to sing and is looking forward to "Moms & Tots" starting up this week.

Rebekah. I can't quite decide what my bigger challenge is right now. 1)Angeline's Experiments or 2)Weaning Rebekah. We thought we were weaning Rebekah in August but it didn't work out like we had planned. I don't mind that she is still nursing (she is only 13.5 months) but she is getting up about 4 times a night and I am tired! It's hard to come up with a game plan with her. I think our next step is to sleep train her, just not sure when or how we are going to do that. Her walking has gotten much faster over the last month and she has also discovered climbing. She got onto our white kitchen garbage can without standing on anything else. She is often up on a stool peeking on the counter and has also climbed into our cupboard, toy bin and onto our white cabinet. She LOVES music... particularly the first song on the kids VBS CD from this year. As soon as it comes on she stopes what she is doing, gets a huge smile on her face and starts dancing and clapping.

Jonathan and I are doing well. We recently discovered a dating journal we kept so that was a lot of fun to read through and we are looking forward to celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary next month. Sorry... no pictures for now but I may try to do a picture post soon now that I've got the writing complete.

We had a wonderful time on Sunday celebrating March Birthdays. March is really a whole month of Birthdays in our family. Angeline had a little tea party at the beginning of the month to celebrate with a few of her girlfriends. Sunday was a celebration with Jonathan's side (Happy Birthday Grandpa Rob too). Monday we went to Granville Island and went out to dinner (I also had a chance to spend a few hours shopping on my own). Thursday Angeline had her shopping spree (never seen a 4 year old who loves to shop so much... she would honestly go all day if she could). With my Dad & Grandma's Birthday still to come we will likely do some more celebrating when we go to the Island. We also celebrated Aunty Lauren's Birthday and are counting down until her visit this summer.
I got a very special gift from my kids this year... the apron with flowers and butterfly are David, Angeline & Samara's hands and Rebekah's feet. Grammy organized it and the kids kept it a secret, very touching! I was really spoiled this year and am feeling really blessed. Thank you to my family and friends.

Angeline's 3rd Birthday

Today Angeline turns THREE. In some ways it seems hard to believe and at the same time we have been treating her like she was 3 for the past year! She celebrated her birthday with a few Friends already in February. Here are a few pictures from her "Purple Party."Angeline had a wonderful time. Thank you to those who were able to celebrate with us!

Thursday Night

On Thursday night Angeline was climbing from one arm of the couch to the other arm of the other couch and she fell off. Normally when she hurts herself she might complain for 5 seconds and then she is back to doing whatever it was that hurt her to begin with. Thursday was a different story. After she fell she started screaming and grabbed her arm and would not let go. I was upstairs nursing Samara.. about 6:30 pm and Jonathan yelled for me to come and look at Angeline's arm... he thought it might be broken. You couldn't see anything but we could tell that it was hurting more then a typical bump on the arm... Jonathan wrapped it and I held my hand under it but if it moved at all she was back to screaming in pain. She would not move her fingers. We decided to take her to Children's Hospital... (thanks Carolyne for the advice and Grammy for babysitting the other 2) got there at 7:50pm and waited until about 11:30pm for a room... waited probably 45 more minutes before we saw the doctor... then went for xrays and got the cast right after that... leaving the hospital around 1:30am. After stopping at McDonalds we went to pick up the other 2 and got home around 3pm.
After less then 3 hours sleep (and a whole previous week of going to bed late) yesterday was a little challenging. David is wanting more attention... Angeline is still wanting to do things all by herself even with only one functioning arm and Samara is continuing to teeth (turned 7 months old yesterday). All in we are all doing well.
We were supposed to hear more about what type of break after a specialist saw the xrays yesterday but have not received a phone call yet (maybe Monday). The xrays showed damage at her elbow and above her wrist). She will be sporting her lovely pink cast for 4-6 weeks.
Sorry if these pictures come up small... I took them off of facebook. More pictures to follow.

Our big Girl & Our baby Girl

March is always a busy month in our family for birthdays. Grandpa Rob turned 50 this month, I celebrated my 28th, Samara is now 3 months old and Angeline turned 2 on Monday. Still more March birthdays to come. We were able to celebrate during our time on the Island as well as since we've been home. Angeline has LOVED all the extra attention as you can probably tell from this picture of her with her cup cake. She spent a good part of her birthday singing "Happy Birthday" to herself... very cute.
Samara LOVES to talk anytime anyone is willing to listen and now gives very big smiles as you can also see from the picture. She isn't full out laughing but she had a little laughing noise that you can tell is a laugh. She hasn't rolled over as of yet but she pulls her arms into her chest and lifts her head like she is going to. At 3 months she weighs 11 lbs 5 oz.
Jonathan and I are LOVING our family. It was nice to be able to go to the Island together and for Jonathan to have a bit of time off work.
I am especially looking forward to some warmer, sunnier days... finding the rain and the cold a bit much at the moment.

Big Girl Bed

Today is Angeline's first day in her big girl bed. We were busy this morning arranging David's room so that they can share. It works out the David is having a sleepover with his grandparents so she can get used to her bed on her own. Hopefully it will go well when David is here tomorrow night. I know they are probably going to want to play and not go to sleep.
Angeline will be 18 months on the 14th. This is about the age that David started getting out of his crib and she is a better climber (if you can imagine) so it was time for a change. Also this way they have lots of time to get used to it before baby arrives. And we have a king size bed coming on Tuesday so we can now work on getting our double bed into Angeline's old room and then getting our room ready for the King. Not sure where we are going to put the baby???

Angeline is walking...

Here are a few pictures of the kids this morning and a video of Angeline walking this morning. She took her first steps on March 20th but has been crawling for the most part since. This last week she has gotten braver and braver and today she has only crawled maybe 5%. This will make it much easier for her to wear dresses and also to play outside.

We actually spent about 4 hours in the backyard yesterday. It was a hot day! I had hats on the kids and I was in a tank top... I could not believe it. I was hoping we would have a repeat today but it is raining! Too bad because Jonathan is home today.

Angeline is 1 year old! - March 14th

On March 14th we celebrated Angeline's 1st Birthday. We were on the Island for her birthday so that is why I am a bit delayed in blogging it. I also wanted to wait until I had a bit more of an update as she had her 1 year check up and shots yesterday.

At 1 year old she still hasn't quite reached 17 lbs! She has dropped a bit in her percentile but that is common at this age because they are so mobile. She is very busy... but not walking independently yet.

We have managed to achieve another special milestone however, one I have been waiting for since she was born... First Pony-tail! Angeline isn't so excited about this but mommy is and you will likely see her sporting this new hair style very soon. Next we are waiting for the day we can achieve pig-tails. I keep telling her "pain is beauty!"

Here are some pictures of the birthday girl on the Island as well as myself who turned 27 this month, my dad who will be 50 and my grandma who is turning "68"... lots of March babies!
